What’s Glow?

Deutsch: Was ist Glow?

Glow ia a computer game. It’s a so called platform game or platformer (in Germany jump and run). The player have to jump, run and fight through the darkness of hell. Your are Stevie Speed and your mission is to save your girlfriend Carmen Cobra who was kidnapped by Satan himself.

Glow combines the best of two worlds in one game:

  1. The typical game play and feeling from the good old days of Commander Keen and friends, brought to life with a
  2. up to date, graphics card accelerated game engine which provides everything expected from a current game: a lot of effects, a complex environment with many wacky weapons, magic spells and items, unlimited save games and a lot more.

The game was originally developed by Black Chronos, a little group of independent game developers. The production of the first version started in the beginning of 2006. Starting from May 2007 it was offered and sold in several web shops. Unfortunately it was not a success and the group was forced to cancel the project. Now we are back in our regular jobs outside the game industry.

In late 2007 we came up with the idea to continue developement of the game. We wanted to fix known bugs and flaws and include some of the features that was canceled in the original game due to lack of time. In early 2008 we decided to release this new version of Glow for free. We believe that a game we spend so many time with should be played by the people, even if it was not a commercial success. Now, Thiemo and Sven are working on the new freeware version 1.666.

Glow in 2007

Glow was the first major game of the small independent video game company Black Chronos. The first final version was available in shops in May 2007. You can still watch the little trailer video for the first version of Glow.

A few months later the commercial game got a completely refreshed look. The revised version offered a lot more to the eye: Lightning and particle effects, more enemies, more extras. The agility and movement of the main character has been greatly improved and felt much more directly and accurately. The download sizes of the demo and full versions had been substantially reduced.

The demo of this revised version was rated as good or very good by almost all download portals. For example, Glow was Download-Tipp.de of the day and achieved best ratings from Gamesite.de, Shareware.de, Downloads.de and many more.

Glow in 2010 (work in progress)

We are working on the freeware version of the retro platform game since early 2008. We do not want to set a release date on purpose. It’s done, „when it’s done.“ We improve not only all graphics, the game play, sound, menus, all levels and other elements but also add many new features. A lot of these little details will not be noticed by the people, but that’s the way we think of freeware. We do it just for the fun of game development.
